Alfresco Community 26.2 dropped Apache Solr and shipped Alfresco Search Community, a new search module built on OpenSearch or Elasticsearch. If you run Alfresco Community, that is a mandatory change of engine. If you run Alfresco Enterprise, you have been on the same repository subsystem since 7.1, and the obvious question is what the Community module actually gives you, and what it does not.

This session answers that question dimension by dimension. Ten of them: how each product is triggered to index, where the indexing latency really goes, why the two cost curves invert as the change rate rises, what scales and what quietly cannot, and where both share a ceiling neither can raise on its own. The query path turns out to be identical on both, which is good news and bad news in the same sentence.

Then the question with money riding on it: if you deploy Alfresco Search Community today, must you rebuild the index when you move to Alfresco Search Enterprise? That one gets answered with a measurement rather than an opinion. We run a public, open-source parity harness live, plant a sentinel document to show that both indexers respect the same write guard, and deliberately break the one configuration item that can lose data silently.

Key takeaways and what you will learn

  • What actually changed in 26.2: Apache Solr is no longer a supported option on Alfresco Community, what replaces it, and how that replacement relates to the Enterprise search module you may already be running.

  • Where the difference is real: event-driven live indexing versus read-only database polling, and the concrete consequences for indexing latency, throughput, scaling and monitoring, including the one thing you should alert on.

  • Whether your index survives the upgrade: measured evidence on handing a Community-built index to Enterprise live indexing, and the single condition you have to satisfy before you try it.

  • What to check before you switch: a five-item cutover checklist, including two silent failure modes that leave the index looking perfectly healthy while it is missing data.

Bring your questions. If you have already migrated, or tried to, we would like to hear how it went.
